Find Your Kind.

Avokindo is a community-powered platform that connects people, places, activities and commerce.

The Discover tab in Avokindo, listing public communities near you — a night market crew and a running group — with each card showing how far away it is and how many people have joined.
01 Why we built it

Most of what is happening near you is invisible.

It is in a group chat you were never added to. On a poster in a window you did not walk past. In four apps that do not talk to each other — one for the community, one for the ticket, one for the band, one for the room. The city is full of things you would have gone to if you had only known.

Avokindo puts them on the same map. A community, the events it runs, the artists who play them and the venues that host them are not four separate products here — they are four views of the same evening. Join the film society, see its screenings, follow the band it books, find the room it books them into.

We are a technology company in Kuala Lumpur, and this is the only thing we build.

02 Who it is for

Four ways in.

The same map, read from four directions. Most people arrive through one of them and end up using all four.

03 What it looks like

Four screens, one evening.

Every screen below is the shipped app, not a concept.

A community page for KL Film Society in Kuala Lumpur, with tabs for Feed, Events, Members and Memories, a list of upcoming screenings and critique nights, and a Join button.
Communities A public or private group with its own feed, its own calendar and its own members.
An organiser's view of a ticketed event, Night Market Live at Sentul Depot, showing passes issued, guests admitted and a waiting count, with buttons to scan passes at the door and view the guest list.
Ticketed events Issue passes, scan them at the door, and watch the guest list fill as people arrive.
An artist page for the band Rina and The Tide, marked Open for Collaborations and Open for Residency, with a gallery, a short biography and a list of upcoming dates.
Artists A page that says what you do, where you are playing, and whether you are open to work.
A venue page for The Loft in Zhongshan, showing its capacity, what it is known for, its regulars, a schedule of what is coming up, and a Request a booking button.
Venues What the room is known for, who its regulars are, and a way to ask for a date.
04 Verification

We check the action, not the person at the door.

Plenty of apps claim their whole membership is checked. Ours is not, and saying so would be easy and untrue. Creating an Avokindo account takes your consent and a name. You can install the app, look at every community and event near you, message people and hold a pass to an event without ever scanning your face.

The scan is asked for at the point where what you do starts to affect other people — walking into someone's group, putting words in front of it, standing at a venue's door. That is where the check belongs, and that is the only place we put it.

  • No check Anyone with the app

Browsing communities, events, artists and venues; sending messages; holding a pass to an event.

  • Face scan A liveness check, once

Joining or creating a community, creating a ticketed event, listing or managing an artist page, claiming a venue, checking in at one, and adding a profile photo.

  • Face scan & photo The scan, then your own photo

Posting to a community feed, commenting, reacting, and joining an event.

A face scan proves a live human is holding the phone and that the photos on the profile are of them. It is not an identity document check, we do not claim it is one, and it is not a promise about anyone's character. Biometric data is handled under our privacy policy, and the app is for adults aged 18 and over.

05 How money works

Free to be here. Paid only when there is a ticket.

Avokindo is free to download, and it never charges you to join a community, to follow an artist, or to turn up to an open event. What it does handle is a ticket with a price on it: a priced ticket is paid inside the app, processed by toyyibPay, and the organiser is paid out afterwards. Cancel an event and every ticket bought through Avokindo is marked for refund.

Some money still is not ours to touch, and we say so rather than blur it: a venue deposit and an artist’s fee are arranged between the two parties, not through the app.

The app is supported by advertising and by an optional Premium subscription. Both are described where they are sold — the FAQ covers what Premium includes, and the privacy policy names our advertising partner and how to opt out.
